The Dems got what they wanted tonight. The Progressive Axis — Harris and her ABC News foils — got under Trump’s skin and stayed there. Just as importantly, Harris was able to fire off her scripted talking points without interruption, correction, or serious questions.
So that part sucked.
The part that didn’t suck is that Harris didn’t do that thing Biden somehow managed in 2020 — to come across as likable. What I think most people saw was two people they didn’t particularly like. The difference is, they already knew they didn’t like Trump. Harris’s unlikability might have been news to them.
And, hey, don’t shoot the messenger here. I’m just talking about both candidates’ favorability ratings.
The State Steno Pool will chalk it up as a massive Harris win but I’m not sure how many viewers will actually buy it. Do they buy anything the SSP is selling anymore?
If there is another debate, I hope Trump preps harder. And mostly I want his coaches to push his buttons like an irate pedestrian stabbing at the crosswalk button. PUSH PUSH PUSH. He can rein it in — he just lacked the discipline tonight to do it.
But in the end, can anyone stand to listen to THAT VOICE for the next four or eight years?

Abortion is anti-constitutional (see the 14th Amendment). It’s not a right. But the Biden-Harris administration certainly undermines many other constitutional rights, including free speech and gun ownership.

I wrote this last summer. Sums it up well.
"Trump, after all, is fresh off of a primary season where he told his opponents and the debates to go stuff themselves (do people still say that?). The party is his now, so he could have pushed for more favorable debate conditions. There are a variety of alternatives to traditional media outlets for exposure now. That's doubly true where Donald Trump is concerned. Cameras will show up wherever he is. He could easily have pressed for a venue and moderators who weren't veteran water carriers for the Democrats."
I can enjoy a debate, but like the late Frank Sheed, I'm skeptical that they shed much light on things. Yes, there is the knockout potential, but I think people often see and hear what they want to see and hear. I mean, they knocked out Biden, and now we have clone Kamala, the new deer staring into the studio lights. But does the debate make it any more likely Trump will win? Don't think it will change much
Well, Trump flubbed up a couple of times but actually he did well overall so far. He had some really good comebacks and hammered most of the major issues. And frankly, I don’t think him raising his voice is materially damaging to his performance overall. But Kamala’s smirking was damaging to hers.
